TRE was originally developed by Dr David Berceli in order to assist large populations following mass scale trauma. Research has shown the sooner trauma survivors are able to discharge and complete their automatic fight/flight/freeze responses the better as it is vital to return the body to a calm homeostasis in order to minimise the likelyhood of PTSD.
While counselling and psychological debriefing have a place in mass trauma recovery, our response to trauma is always inherrently an automatic body based response rather than a psychological one. It is ultimately this discharge and completion of these body based responses that allows for the resolution and integreation of the trauma and the minimisation of likely development of PTSD.
As TRE is self empowering and self regulated trauma release process easily taught in large groups that doesn’t require talking about or recall of specific events or re-activation of emotional triggers, it is perfectly placed for immediate use in response to mass scale trauma as a cost, time and presonell efficient resource for natural disaster recovery. TRE can be easily integrated into existing recovery strategies and organisations with minimum training required for suitably experienced staff.
Since the introduction of TRE to Australia in 2011, Richmond Heath from Trauma Release Australia has provided trauma recovery workshops for both the general public, recovery organisations and health professionals following the Victorian black saturday bushfires in Melbourne and Kinglake, QLD floods in Toowoomba and Ipswich and the Christchurch earthquake in NZ.
Trauma Release Australia aims to provide workshops in communities affected by natural disasters such as floods, fires and earthquakes however require an invitation from affected communities before offering workshops.
If you have been affected by a natural disaster and would like to register interest to attend a TRE workshop in your area , please complete our contact form stating ‘register interest for TRE workshop’ in the subject line and provide details of your location and whether you are interested in a 1 day workshop or 3 day level 1 certification training.
3-4 hour introductory workshops can be provided to the public in affected areas with the assistance of local recovery services as well as to recovery organisations and professional group as an occupational stress and trauma management proces. 3-4 hour introductory worskshops consist of basic education on the body’s response to stress and trauma, a basic understanding of the physiology and history of TRE, being lead through the TRE process once as well as information regarding their ongoing use.
1 Day workshops are the ideal format to learn TRE for ongoing personal use consisting education on the body’s response to stress and trauma, an understanding of the physiology and history of TRE as well as being lead through the TRE process twice under supervision providing an invaluable deepening and understanding the neurogenic process to ensure safe and effective ongoing personal use of the exercises.
3 Day level 1 workshops are for people interested in deepening their own experience and understanding of the TRE process or learning to safely and effectively teach TRE to family and friends. TRE was originally developed for areas of large scale trauma to allow people to teach other family & friends to safely release stress and trauma without the requirement for professional assistance in most cases. 3 day level 1 workshops are also suitable for health professionals wishing to teach TRE professionally (additional requirements including supervision for those seeking professional certification in TRE are listed at ‘certification’ )
