Trauma Release Exercises (TRE) are a breakthrough in stress management and trauma recovery. It is a body centred process that releases deep chronic tension created during traumatic or stressful events by deliberately invoking the bodies innate shaking/tremoring mechanism to rebalance after being in a defensive state.
It is easily learned, immediately effective and self empowering as the TRE process consists of a series of simple exercises to initiate the body’s innate tremor (shaking) mechanism (see neurogenic tremors) to release stress, tension and trauma from the body itself without the need to talk about or remember specific events.
One of the main reasons people do not want to work with past trauma is having to talk about past events and experiences or relive feelings and emotions that were overwhelming at the time. As neurogenic tremors are a body based process, the vast majority of participants will have no emotional experience whatsoever while tremoring. Those few people who do are taught how to skillfully and safely self-regulate the tremoring so they are able to regain control of their body physiology and return to a calmer homeostasis gradually over time.
Please see upcoming workshops for information about 1 day public workshops and 3 day Level 1 and level 2 training around Australia & New Zealand in the coming months including workshops by TRE founder Dr David Berceli in November and December 2011.
This 6 miute video below provides an efficient overview of TRE from a South African Medical TV show – there is more written explanation and information on TRE below the video as well.
TRE overview from South African TV with Dr Berceli:
-
“Much in my attitude to life has changed since doing TRE. Before I would wake most mornings with awful anxiety -now hardly ever! Over the past 20 years I have experienced many processes/counseling including Hypnotherapy, NLP, psychology sessions (EMDR, TFT, TAT, etc.) counseling, Rebirthing, Polarity therapy, Past Life regression, Crystal healing, Reiki, Bowen therapy, NET…..phew! However, the TRE sessions have been the most profound” Sue, Central Coast, NSW
TRE invokes these innate tremors in a controlled and sustained manner to release deep chronic muscular tension from the core of the body where the protective pattern of muscle contraction is created, returning the body to a more calm, relaxed and balanced state.
While originally named and developed for their ability to process severe traumas, they also have a significant impact on reducing general stress, anxiety, tension and pain, (especially in the low back and pelvis,) making them ideal not only for survivors of extreme trauma, but anyone with chronic stress and tension seeking greater wellbeing in their lives.

- “As a psychologist, I am so excited to have discovered Trauma Release Exercises. In my experience, sometimes the talking therapies do not go deep enough. TRE is a pathway into releasing stress and trauma in a simple and private way. Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of this process. It is deep and profound work. I intend to continue with TRE for my own wellbeing. I am also recommending it to my clients as a process that beautifully compliments other forms of treatment.”
